A contemptuous sound bordering on a snort escaped Nate – which could’ve possibly been considered an improvement over the silence. Wynn was thinking of something humorous to say that might diffuse the atmosphere when Nate suddenly shifted. His head came to rest on Mike’s shoulder. Wynn froze.

“Sir?”

Nate closed his eyes and sighed heavily, like a part of his soul was slipping out with the breath. The Gunny slowly turned his head, smiling faintly at the sensation of the LT’s short hair against his cheek. The weight on his shoulder, it felt nice. The urge to kiss the top of Nate’s head surfaced but Mike suppressed it.

“Sir?”
